Stallion Nomination

kaisIMG_1793 DH.jpg

The purpose of the Annual Stallion Nomination system is so NZAHS members do not inadvertently breed with a non-complaint Stallion and risk not being able to register the resulting foal. The names of Nominated Stallions will be published on the NZAHS website and will give those choosing a Purebred Stallion to breed to their Purebred Mare the confidence that:

  • The owner/lessee of the Stallion is a current Full financial member of the NZAHS

  • The Stallion is registered with the NZAHS

  • The Stallion has his DNA profile on record with the NZAHS

  • The Stallion has been genetically tested for CA, SCID and LFS

If your Purebred Stallion is available to stand at Public Stud (ie available to Purebred Mare(s) NOT owned/leased by you) – you will need to:

  1. Complete and return the “NZAHS Stallion Nomination Form” to the NZAHS OR if nominated last season, tick the re-nomination box on the Annual Stallion Return. There is no charge for Stallion Nomination. The Stallion must be nominated each season he is to be used.

  2. Ensure that you, as the owner/lessee of the Stallion, are a current Full financial member of the NZAHS.

  3. Ensure that the Stallion’s NZAHS Registration has been completed and DNA results are held on file with the NZAHS.

  4. Ensure that the Stallion has been genetically tested for CA, SCID and LFS and results are forwarded OR already held on file by the NZAHS OR provide proof of clear by parentage status.

  5. Ensure that you have submitted your previous season Annual Stallion Return to the NZAHS.

  6. Advise the NZAHS in writing if you wish to opt out of having your Stallion’s name published on the Nominated Stallions List on the NZAHS website and/or Stud Book App.

  7. Advise the NZAHS in writing if you wish to opt out of having your Stallion’s genetic test results being available for public viewing on the NZAHS website and/or Stud Book App.

If your Purebred Stallion is to be used for Private Use (ie only to be used with Mare(s) owned/leased by you) – you will need to:

  4. Genetic testing for CA, SCID and LFS is NOT compulsory if the owner/lessee is breeding from a Stallion that is only being used across Mare(s) owned/leased by the owner/lessee of that Stallion. If voluntary genetic testing has been carried out please ensure results are forwarded OR already held on file by the NZAHS OR provide proof of clear by parentage status.
