Genetic Disorders

DNA

Compulsory Genetic Testing for Purebred Stallions available at Public Stud was introduced from 1st August 2017.

The purpose of testing is not to discredit any Stallion but to educate Arabian owners in order that a carrier Stallion can be safely bred to a non-carrier Mare (and vice versa).

The Genetic Tests required are for: Cerebellar Abiotrophy (CA), Lavender Foal Syndrome (LFS) and Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID). Please click on the link below to read the article “Genetic Disorders in Arabian Horses : Current Research Projects” kindly provided by the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO).

An Arabian Horse 3-Panel (CA, LFS & SCID) Genetic Test is available through Massey University's Equine Parentage & Animal Genetics Services Centre (EPAGS) for $110.00 by using the link below to their Online Shop. For new registrations please contact the NZAHS Office if you would like the 3-Panel Genetic Test to be added to the DNA Parent Verification report at a discounted rate. The NZAHS will also accept Genetic Test Results from all internationally recognised testing facilities.
