American-based Richard Petty has been confirmed as the judge for the 2009
New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders' National Arabian Titles Show to be held
at Cambridge Lodge on Saturday February 28 th and March 1 st 2009.
Announcing the appointment, NZAHBS President Jacquie Webby said that the
Society was delighted that Richard had accepted the invitation to travel
to New Zealand in 2009.
“Richard is a very highly credentialed judge. He holds judging cards
for several breeds including Arabians and we are very pleased that he will
officiate over both days of the 2009 New Zealand National Arabian Titles
Show.”
Richard Petty has enjoyed a very successful career in the horse industry
as a trainer, breeder and judge. He received his first judge’s card
in 1979 and is presently carded in ten different equine breeds.
Richard feels that if you’re going to be involved in the industry,
you need to invest more of yourself than just training and owning horses. “I
thoroughly enjoy judging. . .it gives me a wonderful opportunity to scope
out what is happening in the various breeds across the country and other
parts of the World and from the best perspective of all - centre ring.”
Richard has judged the U.S. Arabian Nationals three times as well as the
Canadian National Show. He has also judged the Scottsdale All Arabian Show
six times as well as Arabian Shows in Australia, Brazil, Uruguay and South
Africa.

The announcement that Bushland Gai Sharee had taken out the WAHO Trophy for 2007 was made at the recent Annual General Meeting held in Auckland.
Sharee first entered the show ring in 1990 and won her first championship at halter. She has since gone on to win 11 champions at halter, 13 reserve champions at halter.
Her riding career started in 1991 and she has been awarded 18 ridden champions and 16 ridden reserve champions. Among these was the New Zealand Reserve Champion Ridden 1995 and the New Zealand Champion Ridden in 1996 at Christchurch. She received her Roll of Merit Ridden in 1996 and her Roll of Merit Halter in 1998. That same year she also received an Elite Roll of Merit.
She has also completed in Arabian costume classes, dressage and show jumping with some success.
Sharee has also promoted the Arabian horse
by attending street parades, schools and participating in "Red Nose Day." She attended the promotion of the Arabian Horse at the Royal Easter Show for 10 days, along with other horses. In 1993 she attended the unveiling of the "Egyptian Garden" at the Hamilton Gardens dressed in Arabian costume and entertained visitors to the "Drive Thru Christmas Show" as
one of the Three Kings. Sharee has been used as a riding school horse for
a period of about six months and she also introduced two young riders to
the world of the ridden Arabian and taught a six-year-old to ride.
Her last show was 2005, entering into the Lead Ring Class for her young rider and to winning lots of ribbons to his great delight.
Sharee was retired from the Arabian show ring in 2003 at the age of 20 and is now a successful broodmare, breeding Zaha Arabians a gelding and a filly. She now shares the paddock with her mother, Hiland Princess.
For Lynda and John Guy, it was the culmination of many
successful and happy years of showing a true Arabian ambassador who has
been successful not only as a halter horse and under saddle at Arabian
and open company events, but has shown herself in a fine light at "people events" such
as Red Nose Day.
