- Anglo Arab Register
A check of thoroughbred mares used in Anglo arab breeding programmes
is almost complete after a day spent on this at the Auckland office.
There are a small number of mares that require further checks to ensure
correct status for breeding Anglo qualifying foals. Thoroughbred mares
used in an anglo breeding programme that breeders wish to register
as Anglos are reminded that the mare must be registered and named with
NZ Thoroughbred Racing. It is not sufficient that it is shown as having
been foaled. It is also required to be named.

- Outstanding Subscriptions
A number of subscriptions remain outstanding. A final letter has been
sent to these people and delivery of the magazine has now ceased.
- Ineligible Purebred Male horses
A number of male horses are still on temporary registrations with
no notification of their updated status. Owners of these horses have
been sent a final letter and if no response is received, the horses
will then be moved into suspension. The horses are as follows: Dorian
Alcemidedes
Durdan Prince Charles
Kishon Malachi
MYS Fire Spirit
Saamen Nandor
Waltercrag Talisman.
Please do not use these horses in your breeding programmes
until their status has been clarified.
- Electronic Stud Book
Work is under way to investigate putting our NZAHBS Stud Books on
line (like the Australian system). Updates on progress will be announced
as they are made available.
- 2006 North Island Championships
Congratulations to the Taranaki Arabian Club for their successful application to host this event.
- Council Updates
These are uploaded onto the NZAHBS website as soon as possible after the Council meeting and are also printed in the magazine. Timing may vary on both media forms but general rule of thumb is to publish and upload as soon as possible after the applicable Council meeting.
- Portfolio Updates
These will now be published in each magazine following applicable Council meetings. Each Councillor is responsible for providing their own reports.
- Forms and Fees
Work is under way to produce a more user-friendly registration form. Updates will be advised. An updated version of the NZAHBS Scale of Fees will also be uploaded onto the website shortly and a copy will be posted with the magazine as a loose-leaf so it can be pinned to your office wall, etc.
- Date of next Council Meeting
The next meeting will be held in Christchurch on Thursday November 3 in Christchurch. If members have any matters to raise, please ensure your correspondence is with the Secretary by at least 10 days prior to that date.
May, 2005
- PartBred/Anglo Registers: Work will commence on this in June with a thorough check of records relating to in particular, thoroughbred mares used for breeding anglos.
- Stud
Book 9: Undergoing final proofing. Will be made available on a user-pays
basis with both hard and soft cover copies – prices to be advised.
- Plaiting
of Led Purebred Geldings (Halter classes) at BREED SHOWS: Plaiting
of led Purebred geldings at Breed shows is optional. Purebred geldings
can also be shown plaited in ridden classes at Breed shows. This rule
does not apply to A&P Shows.
- Partbred/Anglo
Roll of Merit: Costs for obtaining a suitable computer programme for
this are currently being sought.
- Arab Horse Racing: Several meetings have been held with interested parties. This portfolio has been handled by Kevin Cholmondeley-Smith who will continue to maintain contact with interested parties and report back as and when any developments occur.
- Electronic On Line Stud Book: Discussions have taken place both within Council and with the Australian Arab Horse Society Board Chairman regarding the possibility of either buying a blank program or co-sharing the Australian online system. The NZAHBS Council is to investigate both this avenue and the possibility of creating our own program to present this service to NZAHBS members.
- AGM 2006: Applications are now being sought for a suitable location/venue for the NZAHBS AGM 2006. Please forward applications to the Secretary.
- Voting
Confusion: Several enquiries were received by the Secretary relating
to "ballot papers not received". There are a number of reasons why
this could be the case: a) are you a full and financial member of the
society? b) have you notified the office of a change of address? If
you are changing your address, please advise the Secretary.
- NZAHBS Rules and Showing Rules: Both continue to be work in progress and will be published as soon as they have been thoroughly checked and printed.
- Halters
with Throat Latches: This showing rule has been changed to fall into
line with the Australian rule – particularly given the widespread
use of cable halters which have only a light throat chain. Halter horses
will now be able to use show halters without a throat latch if desired.
- Emails
to the Secretary: Please be aware that unless the "Subject Matter" field on your email to the Secretary carries a subject or title, it will be deleted due to the amount of unsolicited spam mail that is received at that office. If you want an answer to your electronic query, please fill in the "Subject" field.
- Membership Fee Rebate: President John Morrissey announced at the AGM that a rebate of $25 for the 2006 Membership fee would be made for full members. This rebate is for the 2006 year only and will be reviewed on an annual basis after consideration of the financial state of the Society at the time of review.
April, 2005
- 2006 NZAHBS National Titles Show - Christchurch, venue and date to be confirmed. Judge: HRH The Princess Alia al Hussein of Jordan.
- New Trophy for New Zealand-bred, registered and domiciled Arabian horses - more information.
- Updated
Showing Rules and Governance Rules of NZAHBS - these are "work in progress" with
Council and once the work is completed and changes ratified, they will
be uploaded onto this website.
- Stud
Book Volume 9: As the Stud Book is not purchased by all members, it
was decided that a "user pays" situation would apply. To avoid large
stocks of unwanted Stud Books, it will be sold on forward order at
cost. Order forms will be available at the AGM and delivery will be
mid-year.
- Reminders: Mare and Stallion Returns are due at the office by 1 April following that breeding season.
- 2005 Roll of Merit recipients will be announced at the 2005 AGM.
- 2005 Royal Show (with Arabian Classes), will be hosted this year by the Waikato Show, 28-30 October.
- DNA stickers are being affixed to registration cards (of Purebred horses) when these are being sent to the office for changes of ownership.
- DNA Breeding Stock
All Purebred Arabian breeding stock must be DNA typed prior to any purebred Arabian stock being registered.
- Purebred Foal Registrations
- Due 1 June
- All Fillies and Colts must be DNA'd at the time of registration (Geldings are optional)
- DNA Envelopes must be prepaid
- Gelding Refund: To receive your Gelding refund you must supply the Secretary, NZAHBS, with a gelding certificate prior to 1 August in the season that the animal turns two.
- Incorrect Paperwork: Any paperwork that is found to be in error, will be returned to the member concerned. It is the responsibility of members to ensure that they provide correct paperwork. If you have any queries, please contact the Secretary, NZAHBS, or a councillor.
- Partbred Register/Anglo Arab Register - these will shortly be updated and it is envisaged that updated registers will be published towards the end of 2005.
- Show Gradings - Secretaries are reminded to submit completed programmes and applications for show gradings each year, before the start of the new showing season, to confirm status quo on existing gradings or to seek upgrades.
