• Please note a Transfer Certificate and applicable fee must still be completed and paid for prior to the Arabian leaving New Zealand.
• Check with importing country as some registries require geldings (as well as youngstock, mares and stallions to be DNA typed prior to departure).

Service Certificate

• Available from Society and should be provided by stallion owner - must be used for Purebred and Partbred registrations.

• As of 1 June 2008 the cost of DNA-typing is included in the Registration Fee for Purebred Colts and Fillies (see Registration Fees).
• All Purebred Arabian Foals born after 1 August 2002 must be DNA-typed and Parent Verified at Registration. In the case of Purebred Arabian Geldings hair must be collected and supplied to
  NZAHBS in the DNA-typing Envelope to be held in storage in case it is required at a later date. There is no charge for Gelding envelopes.
• All Purebred Arabian Stallion and Mares used for breeding must be DNA-typed.
• All Purebred Arabians that were Blood-typed must now be DNA-typed.
  
  Instructions for Collecting Hair for DNA Typing
  
  Pull mane hair from above the wither (from mid neck region).
  • Firmly grasp a tuft of 25-40 hairs as close to the skin as possible and pull evenly and directly away
  from the neck. The aim is to pull the hairs out by the roots rather than breaking off the hairs. When
  you look closely at the ends you will be able to see the small roots (especially with a magnifying
  glass). At least half of the hairs sampled should have roots.
  • Avoid contaminating with hair from other horses. Collected hair should be immediately placed in the
  labelled envelope, sealed (avoid licking) and posted inside another envelope to the NZAHBS Office.
